Walking Tour of Lake Conestee Nature Park

A little birding, a little history, a little exercise, and an update on the progress of GWG's
largest 2007 grant.

When:  The event was cancelled due to rain, and will be re-scheduled for another day

Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Where: Lake Conestee Nature Park, 601 Fork Shoals Road

Join us for a guided walking and educational tour of Lake Conestee Nature Park, home to lush forest, large wetlands, 1.5 miles of the Reedy River, trails and boardwalks, and a rich diversity of wildlife habitat. Deer, raccoon, beaver, fox, river otter, and other small mammals inhabit the park, along with numerous species of reptiles, amphibians, and over 130 species of birds.

If you enjoy nature, walking and the outdoors, you will love this tour. Along the way we will be treated to the sights and sounds of Greenville's own beautiful 300 acre woodland retreat with commentary from several local experts, including:

Dr. Jeff Beacham, Executive Director of the Conestee Foundation and passionate advocate of the Park.
Jeff will update us on the progress of the Park and the pedestrian bridge that is to be constructed in part using the 2007 GWG grant of nearly $30,000.

Dana Leavitt, co-founder and former President of the Conestee Foundation, naturalist and current
Land Trust Director for Upstate Forever. Dana will be with us to share both the Park's history and to highlight some of its fauna and flora.

Dr. Paul Serridge, lifetime bird enthusiast and current Program Director for the Greenville County Bird Club. Paul is currently working closely with the Lake Conestee Nature Park to develop a bird check-list.
He also serves on the Board of the Conestee Foundation.

Instructions:  No RSVP needed. Just meet at the Fork Shoals Road trailhead at 10:00 a.m. Wear comfortable shoes and plan on a 2.5 hour easy walk with plenty of stops to view wildlife and learn about the Park.
Bring binoculars for a closer view of the birds and other wildlife.

Directions: The trailhead is at the intersection of Fork Shoals Road and White Horse Road Extension.
There is a Lake Conestee Nature Park sign at the road. Note that the small loop off of Augusta Road is called Old Augusta Road...it is not labeled on the map, and it connects with Fork Shoals Road.

RSVP: Not necessary, but showing up on time is essential. For directions, visit the park's website via the link provided below, click on LAKE CONESTEE NATURE PARK, and then on Quick Facts and Directions.
We will meet at the 601 Fork Shoals Road Trailhead.
